How to See Who Doesn't Follow You Back on Instagram (No Risky Apps)
Find everyone who doesn't follow you back on Instagram without giving your password to an app. Three safe methods, from a quick in-app check to a full spreadsheet comparison of your own data export.

Instagram has no "doesn't follow you back" button. To find those accounts you either check people one by one or compare your followers and following lists. Both can be done without giving your password to any app.
The quick answer
- One account: open their profile. If there's no Follows you label, they don't follow you back.
- Everyone at once: download your followers and following from Instagram, paste both into a spreadsheet, and flag who appears in following but not in followers.
Method 1: The "Follows you" label
Every profile that follows you shows Follows you near the name. Open a profile, and if the label isn't there, they don't follow you back.
It's instant and 100% accurate, but only practical for a few accounts.
Method 2: Use the categories in your own lists
Open your profile and tap Following or Followers. Instagram shows a few categories at the top. Depending on your app version, they include things like Least interacted with in Following, and a category of followers you don't follow back in Followers.
Read the label carefully. The "you don't follow back" category is the reverse of what you're looking for: people who follow you whom you haven't followed. It won't show who ignores your follow. "Least interacted with" often overlaps with non-followers, but it isn't the same list.
Method 3: Compare your data export (finds everyone)
This is the complete, safe method. You download your own lists from Instagram and compare them yourself.
- Open your profile menu → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
- Choose Select types of information, tick Followers and following, pick JSON, and submit.
- When the email arrives (often within a day or two), download the file. It contains a followers file and a following file.
- In a spreadsheet, put the following usernames in column A and the followers usernames in column B.
- In C2 type
=COUNTIF(B:B, A2)=0and fill it down. - Every TRUE is an account you follow that doesn't follow you back.
For a few hundred accounts this takes about ten minutes, and nobody else touches your account.
Or let a tool do the comparison: drop the export .zip into our free Instagram unfollowers checker. It runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded, and you get the list (with the date you followed each account) in seconds.
Why "follow back checker" apps are risky
Most "unfollowers" and "who doesn't follow me back" apps need you to log in with your Instagram password, then act on your behalf. That can:
- get your account temporarily locked for suspicious login activity,
- trigger action blocks if the app mass-unfollows for you,
- or expose your login to a company you know nothing about.
If a tool needs your password, skip it. The spreadsheet method gets the same answer. For more red flags, see are Instagram profile viewer apps safe.
Before you unfollow everyone
A non-follower isn't always someone ignoring you:
- Celebrities, brands and creators can't follow everyone back.
- Private friends may have missed your request.
- Deactivated accounts stay in your following list but can't follow you.
Review the list and unfollow by hand. Instagram doesn't notify people when you unfollow them, but they may notice the Follows you label disappear.
