Link or username: which to use

  • Story link: downloads that one story. You need the link, which means opening the story in Instagram, and that puts your name in the viewer list.

Does Instagram tell them you downloaded it?

No. Instagram doesn’t notify anyone when a story is saved, downloaded or screenshotted. The only thing they can see is the viewer list, and only if you watched the story from your own account.

Highlights and expired stories

Once a story expires it’s gone, unless the owner added it to a Highlight. Highlights stay on the profile and can be watched and saved with the highlights viewer.
