Find unfollowers without giving anyone your password

Updated ·

Instagram doesn’t tell you when someone unfollows you, and it has no “doesn’t follow me back” list. Unfollower apps fill that gap by asking for your Instagram login, which is exactly how accounts get locked or stolen. There’s a safer way: Instagram lets you download your own followers and following, and this checker compares them for you, right in your browser.

How to download your followers and following

  1. Request your followers and following. In Instagram open your profile, tap the menu, then Accounts Center > Your information and permissions > Download your information > Download or transfer information. Pick your account, choose Some of your information, tick Followers and following, then Download to device with Date range All time and Format JSON.
  2. Download the file. Instagram prepares the file and lets you know when it is ready, usually within minutes for followers only. Download the .zip from the same Download your information screen.
  3. Drop the .zip above. You don’t need to unzip it. If you’d rather, pick just followers_1.json and following.json from the connections/followers_and_following folder.

Who doesn’t follow you back

The checker lists every account in your following that isn’t in your followers, newest follow first, with the date you followed them. Before you mass-unfollow, skip brands, creators and celebrities (they can’t follow everyone back) and friends you simply like seeing. You also get the opposite list: people who follow you that you don’t follow back. More tips in our guide to non-followers.

Who unfollowed you

An unfollow only shows up as a difference between two moments. Keep the export you download today, and download a new one in a week or a month. Add both in Who unfollowed me mode: anyone who was in the old followers list and isn’t in the new one unfollowed you, blocked you, or deactivated their account. How to tell a block from an unfollow.

What happens to your files

Nothing leaves your device. The checker uses your browser to open the file, compare the lists and show the result. Klupt doesn’t receive your export, your usernames or your password, and the result list is hidden from our analytics. Close the tab and it’s gone.

Want to watch someone else’s account?

Exports only cover your own account. To see who another public account starts following, use the recently followed tracker: it saves a snapshot and alerts you in Telegram when a new follow is detected.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see who doesn’t follow me back on Instagram?+
Download your followers and following from Instagram (Accounts Center > Download your information, JSON format) and drop the file into this checker. It compares the two lists on your device and shows every account you follow that does not follow you back.
How do I see who unfollowed me on Instagram?+
Instagram never tells you. The reliable way is to compare two exports of your followers taken at different times. Anyone in the older list but missing from the newer one unfollowed you, blocked you or deactivated. This checker does that comparison for you.
Is this unfollowers checker safe?+
Yes. It never asks for your Instagram password and never connects to your account. Your export files are read by your own browser and are not uploaded to Klupt or anyone else.
Why not use an unfollowers app?+
Most unfollower apps ask you to log in with your Instagram password. That can get your account locked for suspicious activity, or stolen. Your own data export gives the same answer with no third party involved.
Why is someone on the list who I’m sure follows me?+
The lists are only as fresh as your export. If they followed you after you downloaded it, request a new export. Accounts that are deactivated or restricted can also be missing from the followers file.
Can I see who unfollowed someone else?+
Not with exports: Instagram only lets you download your own data. To watch another public account, a tracker like Klupt saves snapshots of its following and alerts you to new follows.
Does it work with the HTML export?+
Yes. JSON is best because it includes the date you followed each account, but the HTML export works too.
